Summit's Biological Caterpillar and Webworm Control is a 100% natural, organic Easy-to-Mix Liquid concentration that solely kills leaf-eating caterpillars. Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. thuringiensis is the active component. BTK is a naturally occurring bacteria that solely attacks leaf-eating caterpillar pests of the insect order Lepidoptera. It successfully eliminates cabbage worm, tomato hornworm, tent caterpillar, autumn webworm, Gypsy moth, and a variety of other damaging caterpillar pests. Caterpillar & Webworm control must be consumed by the caterpillar in order to be effective. Within one to five days, the caterpillar stops eating and dies. Only the larval stage of vulnerable insects is affected by the active component (Btk); it cannot be used to kill eggs, pupae, or adults. Once within the caterpillar's stomach, where the pH is basic (alkaline), the bacteria produces a crystalline protein (endotoxin) that causes holes in the insect's gut lining. When the Btk is triggered, the caterpillar's stomach is paralyzed, and it stops eating and dies within one to five days. When larvae are in their early phases of development, they are especially vulnerable to Btk.
