A Mosquito Dunk resembles a little, beige doughnut that floats in still water. As the Dunk dissolves, it releases a bacteria that is poisonous to all mosquito larvae. Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis is the active component in Mosquito Dunks (Bti). Bti is a bacteria that kills mosquito larvae but is not harmful to other living creatures. Simply float a biodegradable Mosquito Dunk in water troughs, koi ponds, birdbaths, rain barrels, animal drinking troughs, elevator shafts, or any other location where water accumulates and remains for an extended length of time. A Mosquito Dunk gently emits a long-lasting biological mosquito larvicide at the water's surface while floating. This larvicide eventually settles in the water and is devoured by the mosquito larvae that develop there as it passes through it. When female mosquitos lay their eggs in standing water treated with a Mosquito Dunk, the larvae hatch and start eating the Bti. The Bti kills mosquito larvae before they mature into biting, disease-spreading adults. Each Mosquito Dunk treats 100 square feet of surface water for at least 30 days.
